The final countdown has begun…we’re off in 6 days

As we sit here in the lounge at home, in our comfy(!) garden chairs, and peruse the chaos around us, the reality has finally hit. It is happening, we’ve rented out our house, we’re leaving in less than a week !! It’s been a fast moving, and incredibly frustrating couple of weeks!  A week ago, we were still in limbo and being increasingly frustrated by prospective tenants. We had a lovely Welsh couple come round, adored the house, said they wanted it, then disappeared. They were quickly followed by a single guy, […]

Overhead storage in the Garage

Almost as soon as we got our new van “Elton” home, we loaded everything into the van’s garage to see how much space we had, and to  marvel at how much stuff we could take with us. It was a bit of a shock to see all of our things piled up on the floor making the garage look totally full up – and we still had lots more to pack! And how on earth would be able to find anything! We quickly realised we’d need an organised way of […]

Upgrading our gas to LPG refillable bottles

One of the challenges motorhomer’s face is making sure we always have a good supply of gas. For our van Elton, we always need gas for cooking, and when we’re not plugged into 240v mains (“off-grid”), we need gas for heating and hot water.  In the van we have a large gas locker that holds two 11Kg gas bottles – the same bottles as we all use for our BBQ’s. However, there’s a few things about using normal gas bottles that sometimes make life a bit difficult for motorhomers. You know the […]

Our 1st trip to the Weighbridge

We took our motorhome Elton for his first “test” weigh-in at the Weighbridge today. It’s important that we don’t overload the van; if we’re stopped by the police and taken to a weighbridge for testing and we’re overweight, we’d be fined, AND  we’d have to lose all excess weight before they’d allow us to leave the weigh station and continue our journey. Potentially that would mean having to leave some of our possessions – or Carol  – behind (don’t worry fishing tackle, you’re safe). We’ve heard of many motorhomers being tested and […]

A trip to the Weigh Bridge

A New Year, and time’s moving so fast.

Happy New Year everybody, we hope 2017 brings happiness and health to you and all of your family. As we lay in bed on New Years day talking about the year ahead, we reflected on the fundamental change that we’re about to take in the way we live. We’re conditioned from an early age to build a stable home and fill it with better and nicer stuff;  this year we’re throwing that conformity out of the window and taking our lives in a completely new direction. We’ll still have a home, albeit […]

He’s arrived – It’s a boy!

Ladies and Gentlemen………Introducing “Elton“, our new Carado T449 Motorhome. He weighed in at 7.4m long,  rated at 3.850 tons …….and he’s just beautiful After what seems an endless wait, but in reality was only about eight weeks, we finally picked up our new Motorhome from CamperUK in Lincoln today. We’ve had such a fun day today going over the whole van with the engineers, seeing how everything works, and tonight we’ve come down to CamperUK’s own leisure park where we’re trying out all the gadgets and making sure we’re happy […]

Time is marching on

9 Weeks to go. Two weeks since our last blog, and just nine weeks before vacate our house at the end of January. It’s been a very busy two weeks with house clearance, decorating and family stuff, but there’s no major milestones and no big changes to report. The house is starting to look empty in a few places, most of the obvious junk and stuff that we or the family don’t want has gone The house is still up for rental No takers yet unfortunately and we don’t realistically expect […]

16 weeks to go…or is it 12

The house went out on the rental market this week – that was a scary reality check seeing the details out there on the internet waiting for a prospective renter. We’ve been assuming Carol giving up work at the end of February, but we realised this week if someone wanted to rent the house from the start of February, Carol could give up work a month earlier and financially we’d be no worse off. That sent us into an even bigger tailspin potentially cutting four weeks out of our sixteen […]
