Belgium – Ypres & Passchendaele

Having been back from Thailand for a few weeks, we started to get itchy feet again, a sure sign that we needed to be heading off somewhere. With Phil’s annual fishing trip in the Netherlands with his buddies due at the end of April, and with family commitments in June our options were fairly limited, so we decided to spend some time in Belgium, before heading up to the Netherlands, and then back to the UK. Our plan for Belgium was to visit Flanders, and some of the first World […]

Thaipusam Festival, Penang, Asia 2019 Part II

We were on the Island of Penang, just off the Malaysian coast, in the old quarter of Georgetown, a UNESCO world heritage site. We’d spent a day and half walking around this amazing place; so much to look at with every step we took. So many colours, street stalls, and people from every part of the world. It was beautiful, bustling and sometimes breathtaking, but boy was it busy. On the bigger roads the traffic was horrendous – you took your life in your hands every time you tried to […]

So Charming in Charmes

Well, it’s lovely to be back in France again, where we at least have some skills to be able to talk to the locals. While French was the language we both learned at school, it’s clear to us travelling around Europe that German would have been much more useful. It’s funny travelling in so many countries, it’s so easy to get your Buenos Dias mixed up with your Bonjour, or your Guten Tag swapped with your Grüss Gott! We’ve said DankeSchon to at least three French shopkeepers in the last […]

Our time in Germany, festivals, beer and naked spas!

Well, we’ve just spent the last month in Germany. This has been our first real trip into this huge country, and it’s fair to say we’ve had a fantastic time! This post attempts to sum up all of the highlights in just a few paragraphs, a near impossible task, but here goes :- We’ve been to festivals where we realised the Germans like beer at least as much as The British, we’ve been to campfires where we realised the Germans are equally as daft as the British, and we’ve been […]

1966 and all that! Hammerschmiede, Germany

A night round the bonfire with fun loving crazy Germans. Our plan while in Southern Germany, was to head down the “Romantic Road”, so named because of all the fairytale towns and villages along its route. We’ve just spent some days walking around the beautiful medieval towns of Bamberg, Würzburg and Rothenburg and we decided we’d had enough of beautiful buildings. What we really love is being out in the country. So we headed for a campsite about 50 miles west of us, in the middle of the country, on […]

It’s all in a days work – grapes, grapes and more grapes!

How we ended up going back to work for the day in a German vinyard Strumpfelbach – Germany, 2018. With Phil being retired for more than three years, and Carol now into her second year of retirement, we thought we’d finished with going out to work……as we sit here with sore backs after a hard day out on the German hills picking grapes, we’re glad it’s not an everyday occurrence! How did we come to be grape picking? It’s a long story……. We were recently in a lovely little campsite […]

A little bit of England – Gibraltar and Christmas

Happy New Year everybody! The astute reader will maybe comment that this is our first blog post since Christmas, and you’d be correct! We’ve decided to change the way we do things and put most of our updates on Facebeook seeing as that’s where most of our friends and family find it easiest to see log on to – especially the technically challenged ones! Facebook’s also a lot simpler to do short and quick updates than blog posts.  Our facebook page is Here. We’ll still doing occasional blog updates, as it […]

Friends, Flamingos and Tapas

Well, how much are we loving Spain! When we arrived here in our Motorhome at the start of November, pretty much everything was new to us. Both of us have had short holidays in mainland Spain or the Canaries, but coming here to travel for four months with a Motorhome was way beyond any previous holiday experiences. The language was new, neither of us did Spanish at school, and all we had was our first two hours of the “Paul Noble Spanish Course” under our belt. The roads and road […]
